Nearby Joshua Tree National Park is The Living Desert, which is a privately owned "zoo-like" operation in that they have animals in all sorts of apparent natural habitats. While the place provided reasonable opportunity to view animals, the awful Christmas decorations were so inappropriate and gawdy, it was almost embarrassing for me as the visitor to be there. I didn't want to take a picture of them for fear of breaking a lens. In any event, the place is full of families, which means there are many kids, an important element in the diet of many of these wild animals. If you go, be sure to bring enough for everyone.
