The capital building was built in 1929, and has gone under many changes
since then. Before the Revolution in 1959, Cuba was a democracy, and
the capital was home to the House of Representatives and the Senate.
(The form of government was similar to that of the United States,
except that they didn't bother with impeachment hearings.) Today, the
building is the Science and Technology building, and is home to the
only place where tourists can go to access the Internet. (Cubans are
not allowed to access the net.) While Internet access is possible, the
performance is dreadfully slow. (It usually takes about 60 minutes to
read and reply to two or three email messages.)
